Fad

I decided to keep the word a bit more subconscious in this one because the image is just so great. This is from a park in Cobble Hill, after a beautiful Sunday. The trash piles of New York are impressive, and I'm sure I'll be using many of them in the coming months. As for the word, well, have you heard it's the latest fad to pile your trash delicately on the trash below it, before just giving up and placing it carefully on the ground?

Regulation

Interestingly, the word generator popped up "regulation" this time, which seems a bit too perfect, but I'll use it. Dirty, old gum is gross, and it's mildly disturbing simply to see how much gum New Yorkers really chew, and how long it sticks around. Is it gross enough to prompt actual regulation? Apparently not.

Omg, this image is so ironic.

Center

If you look closely, you can see the rat on the tracks. We've all seen them, and enjoyed a quiet moment of camaraderie with fellow MTA riders equally disgusted. The word generator popped up "center" and I set it in white, in Berthold City. MTA and its rats are the center of my soul.

I know this is random...but...

So is life.

I started out wanted to just talk about the filth in the wonderful city, because it's pretty impressive. I've lived my whole life in old, dirty cities, and when I did spend last year in Chicago, I realized how important the dirt was to the experience. I freaked out. Then I started playing with some of the images I had collected and decided to do a quick art project for each post and add a random word to each picture. I use a random word generator at watchout4snakes.com and place the word on top of a crappy cell phone picture. I must admit I'm not really a photographer, and I'm not really in the mood to pretend to be one this semester, but I do always have my phone with me. I think the pictures are passable for the web.

So this blog is about perception, context, and filth. Enjoy.
